Marmasthan in Vastu
Our lifestyles are greatly influenced by our health and daily routines. The house that we stay in represents our safe abode that is supposed to provide peace and security to both our physical and mental being. Purush refers to the cosmic man and his energy and power. Mandal is the name given to any chart or plan which represents the cosmos symbolically. In Hindu cosmology, the surface of the earth is represented as a square. Hence, an ideal Vastu-approved house should be either square or rectangle, to begin with.

The Vastu Purush Mandal is an indispensable part of Vastu Shastra. This forms the basis of any calculations or diagrammatic representations of the house design. As per the rules of the Vastu Shastra, it is the metaphysical plan of a building. This plan is metaphysical in the sense that it incorporates the course of the heavenly bodies and the supernatural forces exerted by them on the house.
About Marmasthan and its Vedic importance
Marma is a Sanskrit word that refers to any open or exposed sensitive part of the body. In Ayurveda, it is a point in the human body that’s located at the intersections of veins, muscles, joints, bones, ligaments or tendons.
Similarly, according to Vastu Shastra, Marmasthan is the crossing point of longitudinal and latitudinal lines in the Vastu Purush Mandal. They are sensitive points in the house and are called as ‘Marmasthana, ‘Mahamermsthana and Upmermsthana.
Features of Marmasthan
- The points representing the Marmasthan are nine points of intersection of the lines connecting Roga& Anila; Pitr and Shikhin; Shosha and Vitatha; Mukhya and Bhrsha; Jayanta and Bhrngaraja; these are the names given to the points in pairs.
- Aditi and Sugriva are considered the most vulnerable parts.
- The measure of the vulnerable part is an eighth of a square.
- The veins or the Shiras of this Vastu Purush are the lines that run from east to west or north to south.
- 64 intersection points of two Nadis or Shiras are the actual Marmasthan.
- At 9 places where the ‘KonSutra’s (3+3=6) intercept each other diagonally, those points are known as the ‘MahaMarmasthana’.
- These intersection points of Raju (vansh) are very sensitive nadis.
- Any other crossing points are called as ‘UpaMarma’.
Vedic Importance of Marmasthan
The metaphysical design sketch of a house or the Vastu Purush Mandal has 6 distinct places. They are known as Shanmahanti. These Marmasthan are derived by lines connecting 12 Gods and Goddesses that reside on the Vastu Purush Mandal. The nine points where these lines intersect each other are called the Marmasthan. These points are on and around the Brahma Sthan of the house. They are as follows:
1) Shir
2) Mukha
3) Hridaya
4) Nabhi
5) Vam Sthana (left side 4-2), and
6) Dakshin Sthana (right 4-2).
All of these are very sensitive points in Vastu purush Mandal and are directly related to health problems.
It is for this reason, that no column or beam should be constructed over any of these points. Doing so can negatively affect the ‘ Marmasthan’ and cause the owner to suffer health problems at that particular limb of his own body. The health issue will be directly related to the type of Marmasthan which has been blocked by the beam.
Negative effects if punctured
As discussed above, these 6 areas of sensitivity in the Vastu Purush Mandal are influential in the house. These are considered as Natural Earth energy lines and are used as carrier waves. As per Vastu rules, these lines connect the house’s space with the whole world, to manifest your desire. Being so powerful, they should not be covered by any beams or columns.
If done, the energies surrounding these areas get blocked and begin to impact the health of the house owner negatively. This can give rise to a myriad of health issues, depending upon which Marmasthan has been blocked. These problems are due to sleeping on the energy lines that we refer to as the ‘Marmasthan’.
Any action by way of construction or lifestyle inside the house that directly or indirectly punctures the intersections creates the negative fields. Sometimes, any heavy object is kept on the Marmasthan or the floor is drilled to make modifications to the house. If any of these construction ways are destructing the Marmasthan, then this means sudden and severe repercussions on the occupants of the house This generates negativity that slowly starts filling the housing space.
Energies at Marmasthan
We as human beings, continuously need an exchange of energy between us and the universal energies. This can happen in a significant manner in our house, where our Vastu acts as a medium for this energy exchange. So, if the house is constructed as per the Vastu Shastra principles, then this energy exchange is positive or favorable to our general well-being.
If the energies at the Marmasthan are properly utilized and not blocked by the construction of any beams, pillars or any puncture will prevent sickness and ailments to the home owner’s body. Even if they occur, it can help to get an early recovery from any of these issues.
Location in Drawings
The Vastu Purush Mandal is a diagrammatic representation of the energy current flows that in the subtle body of a human being, as seen from the metaphysical point of view. The nine points where these lines intersect each other are called the Marmasthan. These points are on and around the Brahma Sthan of the house. The Brahma Sthan is the center of the house. This area should be kept free and open, and clean to the best of your ability. The presence of Marmasthan is the exact reason why we should keep the Brahma Sthan free from any heavy objects.
The other locations are as follows:
Harnessing the positive energies related to a particular direction is the chief objective of the principles of house construction as per the Vastu Shastra. These points pertaining to the importance of the Marmasthan can be effectively utilized to design a house perfect for your physical, mental and spiritual well-being.
VASTU ENERGETICS PROVIDES EFFECTIVE SOLUTIONS TO CORRECT THE ENERGIES OF THE MARMASTHAN IF AGGRESSED EITHER DUE TO A DESIGN FLAW WHICH COULD BE INEVITABLE FOR A PLACE ALREADY DESIGNED PRIOR TO APPROACHING US OR DUE TO PLACEMENT FLAWS (OBJECTS LIKE FURNITURE E.T.C) BY WAY OF OUR DIVINE EARTH ENERGY PRODUCTS. THEY ARE ALSO USED TO HARMONIZE FLATS, BUILDINGS, PLOTS WHICH HAVE A TILTED NORTH WHICH IS AGAINST THE BASIC TENETS OF VASTU SHASTRA.
